We are in the process of securing the lease for a new office, located just off J27 on the M5, so hopefully making us easily accessible for all our foster carers in the Devon and Somerset areas.
The new region will be called TFF Wessex, and will be staffed by a team of new and existing staff
Angela Ryeland – Regional Director
Lyn -Senior SSW
Mandy – SSW
Nick – Support Worker.
We hope to be set up as a sub-office to Tavistock in April 2015 and will work towards registration as an independent region by May 2015. We anticipate having an open day to celebrate the opening during May 2015 – we will keep you all posted.
The next few weeks will be busy in preparing all that goes into setting up a new office but the team are excited and looking forward to developing our new region.
It has been agreed that each of the two regions will be involved in the annual fostering fortnight – 01st -14th June 2015, this is to acknowledge the great work all foster carers and their families undertake. As a celebration we will be organising a “Balloon Launch” in both Tavistock & Wessex. The launch will be planned for Friday 5th June 2015, after school, exact time is still to be confirmed. It would be wonderful if you could all attend and be part of this celebration. Each balloon will have a tag with our office addresses on one side, along with the initials, date and short message about this celebration and the competition on the other side – the balloon which travels the longest distance will receive a prize, along with the recipient of the balloons – full details to follow.
Meanwhile, the South West Region continues to be very busy with children’s activity groups, training both staff and foster carers. There have been 2 panels recently—one of which was the Children’s and Young Peoples’ Panel—with 2 sets of potential applicants attending—both of whom were successful. The children and Young Peoples’ panel is proving to be a really useful tool in the recruitment and assessment of foster carer applicants. Unfortunately some of our young people originally trained for panel have either moved placements or are busy at college, so we are a little low on numbers. We intend running a refresher and new training day for any interested young people—the date for the panel training is 12 August so please start to talk to your young people about this—there is financial reward too as well as learning some great skills for the future.
We hope you all have a lovely Easter & look forward to better weather in the next few months.
Regional Director, South West
