Breaking the mould….

Next year, award-winning Applied Science student, Natalie Walker is looking forward to studying BSc(Hons) Diagnostic Radiography at Sheffield Hallam University. But Natalie is the first to admit that her story is not the usual one y0u hear about a student excelling in eductaion.

During Foster Care Fortnight, Natalie openly acknowledges that her progression to university has gone against the norm. From the age of seven, Natalie was placed with a foster family. Statistically, only 6 percent of students in care progress onto higher education, compared to 50 percent of the national average.

“All my teachers have inspired me and made me realise that I can achieve, I can do just as well as anyone else”, said Natalie.
