How the Fostering Foundation Supports our Foster Carers
How we support you…
The Fostering Foundation will provide you with high levels of support to help you make a difference in a child’s life. You will have your own Social Worker who will provide guidance, assistance and a listening ear to help you get through the highs and lows of fostering. We are here 24 hours a day, with our dedicated helpline staffed by our caring teams.
There are regular support groups close to where you live, where you can access the knowledge and skills of your peers, share your experiences and expertise.
All carers receive a financial allowance to help with the cost of looking after foster children (between £350—£410 per week for one child). As a foster carer you will be classed as self-employed, but entitled to tax relief and you will pay little or no tax.
We also offer our own therapeutic practitioner to support the children placed with our carers.
We run activity days for looked after children as well as sons and daughters of carers. Activities include teddy bears picnic, rock climbing, snowboarding and days out to local attractions. We also have whole family events throughout the year.
Other financial benefits include:
- 14 days holiday allowance per year (covered as part of the above allowance)
- Membership to the Fostering Network who provide additional resources, advice and support for foster carers nationwide
Support from the Foundation
When you foster with us, you’ll have direct access to a supervising social worker (SSW), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Fostering Foundation SSWs are responsible for a maximum of 12 foster carers and give day-to-day support through regular contact with you.
Your supervising social worker supports carers to ensure that all aspects of care for the child is met along with the child’s social worker to ensure that children are progressing in your care and that you are able to meet their changing needs. They will also ensure that you and your family are being supported to enable you to do this.
Your SSW will accompany you to professional meetings to ensure that your thoughts are listened to. We will ensure that the introduction between yourselves and the child that you are going to provide care to are as planned as possible and that you will have access to all the information available which will enable you to be in the best position to meet their needs.
We organise multiple family events throughout the year such as Easter Egg Hunts, Halloween Parties, Summer Party or BBQ, Christmas Party and others.
We also provide support to the children and young people by running activity days for them such as teddy bears picnic, rock climbing, snowboarding and trips to theme parks. This gives the young people an opportunity to talk to others in similar situations whether that is being in care, or being part of a family that fosters.
The children also provide content for and are sent copies of their own Fostering Foundation magazines.
We also offer therapeutic support to the children that have been placed with our carers to ensure that they feel safe and secure and are able to form appropriate attachments to their carers.
