The Fostering Foundation take great care trying to find the right foster carers for the right people in care. We recently asked one of our foster carers what they thought about the process of placement matching and this is what they said.
“The placement matching process is complex, but it needs to be to enable a positive placement.
We are on our second placement now and feel that both times we have been able to put our views and expectations across and felt listened to, we live on a farm and have our own young child so these are two factors that needed to be carefully considered.
Our SSW was great at helping us find our first placement, talking through each referral that looks promising and supporting us through the expressions of interest, asking any questions we felt needed answering and alleviating any concerns that cropped up.
They also encouraged to keep looking us and remain positive when things didn’t go our way reminding us that the right placement would come.
For our current placement we worked closely with Noorie the Recruitment and Placement officer.
We discussed our situation, the type of placement we were after and then she did a fabulous job of sending us matching referrals, or ringing me regularly with potential placements that may have been slightly outside of what we were originally looking at just to see what we thought.
Noorie was great at communicating with Local Authorities for us, she asked any questions we had regarding referrals and negotiated expressions of interest too.
Overall we have felt well supported during the matching process, we felt listened to and under no pressure at all to take a placement that didn’t feel right. Noorie is great and we look forward to working with her again in the future.”
