Ofsted: The Fostering Foundation is rated ‘Good’ across all areas of practise by Ofsted

The Fostering Foundation is proud to share that we have been rated ‘Good’ across all areas of practice following an inspection by Ofsted.

The Fostering Foundation was inspected by Ofsted between 21st and 24th March 2022 and the report, released today 25th May 2022, makes note of our child-centred care, strong advocacy for children, and the peer support programmes we have launched to help support our fostering communities.

The report states: “The independent fostering agency provides effective services that meet the requirements for good.

Sakina Khan, CEO of The Fostering Foundation commented: “We are delighted to receive this report from Ofsted, which confirms The Fostering Foundation is rated ‘Good’. The report not only highlights the advocacy work and support we provide for children in our care, but also reflects the improvements we continue to make in how to recruit, train and support our brilliant foster carers. I would like to thank our whole team for their incredible work, as well as our community of foster carers and young people.”

The full report, which we have now received, examines several key areas in order to assess the quality of our work and the care that we provide. These areas include:

  • Overall experiences and progress of children and young people
  • How well children and young people are helped and protected
  • The effectiveness of leaders and managers

Among the report’s findings, we are delighted to find that children in placements through our service felt “safe, happy and loved” as well as receiving appropriate support from our agency.

The report notes: “Children spoken with during the inspection said they felt safe, happy and loved by their carers. They know how to share any worries or concerns which they may have and spoke fondly of their carers”.

As an independent fostering agency working to support young people, we champion therapeutic parenting and provide a range of training courses for our foster carers. We are delighted to see this reflected so positively in the report, commented Nita Yeowell.

As we provide short-term, long-term and emergency care for children and young people who may have complex care needs, matters of safeguarding and protecting children are extremely important to us in all that we do. We are pleased to see the report note the high standard of safeguarding measures that we employ – The report notes: “Children and young people are safeguarded by the practice of the staff at the agency. Responses to any concerns are timely and effective.

Our OFSTED report specifically mentions our commitment to unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC), one of whom was interviewed during the inspection. The inspector notes that: “This child is happy in their home and has been reunified with their sibling, who was already living with the foster family which they have joined. This is a fantastic outcome for the siblings.

We are extremely proud of our manager, Nita, who joined us in November 2021 and who is singled out in the report for her “proactive and tenacious” approach. The report praises the “significant positive” contributions she has made to The Fostering Foundation, adding that “She advocates for children when she believes their best interests are not being met”.

The Fostering Foundation is dedicated to advocating for children and providing the best possible support to them through our recruitment of foster carers, training courses, and ongoing care and support, and Ofsted’s report is a wonderful showcase of how we are continuing to live and breathe our values.

We would like to thank our entire staff team, foster carers and young people who continue to work with us at The Fostering Foundation, and look forward to continuing in our mission to improve in all we do, in order to provide the very best opportunities for children to thrive.
