Skills to Foster Course, South West

STF1Angela Ryeland and Lyn Gibbins successfully provided informative and stimulating Skills to Foster course, at the Cullompton Community Centre, for prospective foster carers, from across Devon. They were joined by an experienced foster carer with the Fostering Foundation, on the second day of the training. She provided invaluable insight and experience of her and her husband’s journey as a foster carer, providing a foster home  to three brothers, for over four years.

‘it was wonderful to work with a group of people, committed to becoming foster carers, who were so engaged, enthusiastic and keen to learn – they came up with some invaluable insights, Lyn Gibbins Supervising Social Worker, Course Trainer.

STF2As part of the preparation for prospective foster carers to begin their fostering career, the Fostering Foundation provides a Skills to Fostering course, as a mandatory part of their assessment.  The course aim is to inform prospective foster carers of the different aspects of fostering, including why children need foster homes, the impact of abuse and neglect on a child’s development and behaviours, how to support a traumatised child, working with professionals, reporting and recording and safer caring.
