Celebrating Fostering Fortnight Duck Race
The Fostering Foundation South West held their first Duck Race on the canal in Meadowlands Park, Tavistock as planned on Friday 27 May 2016.
Despite weeks of monitoring the current and water levels, on the day of the Quacky Races the canal was perfectly still!
With eager faces awaiting the race, there was only one solution and the event organiser entered the waters with the plastic and real feathery ducks alike and helped those of the plastic kind on their way to make it to the finish line. With the aid of a bucket and elbow grease the ducks were launched down the canal. The event became less of a free flow duck race and more of a bucket challenge! All the ducks made it past the finish line, eventually, and were supported on their journey with the enthusiastic words of encouragement singing, whistling and huffing and puffing from the children and adults alike.
The doughnuts and drinks were an enjoyable treat and helped us all cope with the slow pace of the race!
A huge thank you to all of you who came along to support this event in the spirit of raising awareness of fostering in the UK.
You were all stars and made the event a totally enjoyable experience.
