Who and Where We Are
Welcome to the Fostering Foundation Wessex. Our office is based at Swallow Court, Tiverton, and sits saddled between the counties of Devon and Somerset, just off junction 27 on the M5. It is easily accessible and within direct reach of the Devon towns of Tiverton and Exeter and the Somerset towns of Wellington and Taunton. The Wessex region stretches from Barnstaple in North Devon all the way down to Torquay in South Devon, across to Yeovil and up to Bridgewater in Somerset.
The Tiverton Parkway Railway Station is just a five minute drive away and with parking on site, makes visiting our office easy and all visitors would be warmly welcomed.
We are made up of a small team of dedicated and experienced social workers and office manager. Additionally we have access to professional and therapeutic consultancy and support to ensure we provide the best support to our foster carers and the children & young people in our care.
What We Do
Our agency provides foster homes to some of the most vulnerable children and young people from across the UK. Helping the children and young people to build trusting relationships with their carers and perhaps for the first time, a sense of security and safety is essential work and this can take commitment and time but seeing a child or young person begin to turn their life around can be highly rewarding.
An important part of our ethos is to invest in our foster carers, through regular supervision, providing a diverse range of training, which reflects the most recent research and through support groups where foster carers can share knowledge and experience through peer mentoring and in turn creating opportunities for foster carers to form supportive relationships with each other. We recognise fostering can be very challenging and through providing respite care, we ensure our carers receive time to rest and recharge. A full time duty service is available so foster carers can access support 24/7. We also value our carer’s birth children and the important role they play; they too have their own support group and a chance to enjoy some fun activities together.
Ensuring the children and young people receive the support and care they need is very important to us. We provide individual support to those young people who need extra help. We run regular children’s groups for the different age groups, where different issues can be discussed and explored. A range of fun activities are organised which provides the children and young people with a great day out and our carers with a rest.
Throughout the year there are special events where we all come together, staff, carers, birth and foster children and young people. Sharing a relaxed and fun time together, whether a barbeque, picnic or for a game of rounders, helps to build relationships with each other and establish us as part of one organisation.
We are recruiting new carers and would always be interested to meet families, couples, single and same sex couples, experienced parents or those new to caring for children. If you would like to find out more please either complete the on line form or contact us directly on 01884 211816 for a chat. We look forward to hearing from you.
